Candida Diet
Since the 1980s, pathogenic fungi have emerged as a significant cause of human diseases. Candida albicans is the most common pathogenic fungi among humans. This is an overgrowth of yeast in the body, particularly the digestive system, which manifests itself in the form of weight gain, skin issues, mental dysfunction, depression, etc. There is further research being done to link yeast and fungi infections to more serious diseases as cancer, Alzheimer’s, heart disease, diabetes, and autoimmune disease.
So, how does the Candida diet work? This fungus feeds on sugar, so the Candida diet is a 100% sugar-free diet. This includes all grains, yeast, mushrooms, sugar, corn, pistachios, peanuts, alcohol and starches. Yes, that means high glycemic fruits and vegetables as well.
This diet is one of the most difficult to follow since it is the most restrictive and it may be wise to hire a coach to walk you through the process. Many people (including myself two years ago) experience flu-like symptoms when detoxing themselves of the Candida albicans fungi, another reason a coach may be necessary. On this site, I will have many Candida-safe recipes that use other natural sweeteners like xylitol and stevia.
